As it stands, the Republic has dealt a devastating blow to the Empire, destroying the Star Destroyers in their service (The Enforcer, the Interrigator, The Eliminator, The Dominator and the Eradicator). Four of these ships were destroyed at the battle of Jarantine, with the Super Star Destroyer, The Conquerer, managing to escape into hyperspace before it was defeated as well.
The Empire has taken the Iluni sector, but it is now widely known that the area has not gone down without a fight; there is a war going on there as well. Since the battle of Jarantine, the Empire has been quiet, fighting to keep it's conquered territory with a damaged fleet.

Possibly others. The Republic has spotted very small gravity-well causing Star Destroyers similar to Intridictor-Class ships that rumors are saying are called Capture-Class Destroyers, which are only about the size of a frigate, although they have the familiar shape of the Imperial Star Destroyers.
The Republic
Although the Republic has very few ships, they are supported by the forces of Garka and other allies. The fleet is only a part of it's power. Strong allies are essential to defend against the Empire.
The Republic has breathed a sigh of relief at the recent decent of Imperial activity in their territory. The Garkan people and the Republic have made a strong alliance, and the worlds of The Lost Sector have voted to create The Second Republic, a unification of the inner worlds that were transported with the Vaulter. However, Bantooine has not responded to this gathering.
Creating legislature to connect there worlds will be a long and daunting task, requireing many diplomats and senators to work for years to reach a common set of laws that will suit the members of these worlds. In the meantime, it is up to the military to protect this interest.

Basically, the Republic normally keeps at Caldus, Jarantine and at Saluni/Daluni: 1 capitol ship, 5 frigates, 10 destroyers, 20 corvettes, 10 battle cruisers, and over 100 fighters. However, this is the ideal: often many of the ships are elsewhere on business, getting refitted or repaired, or docked for routine maintenance. Still, an impressive force can often be seen at any of the given worlds. The K'kar stays at Jarantine unless needed elsewhere.
Notes (Garkan)
The Commanding Fleet ship of the Garkan armada is the Leviathan, a ship much larger than the typical Garkan ships. The newly refitted ship is larger than any Republic ship, and is about 1/3 the size of the Conqurer. The Garkan fleet has about twice the ships that the Republic has, but with almost twice the worlds to protect.
Notes:
The Allied Worlds have a fleet roughly equal to the rest of the fleets together. The Allied Worlds normally keep at any given world: 3 capitol ships, 15 frigates, 30 destroyers, 60 corvettes, 30 battle cruisers, and over 300 fighters. A Shi, they have doubled these numbers, leaving many of their worlds only protected with about half the normal number of ships.
