Play by E-Mail Turns
This section of the Soaring Blade web-site is meant to allow the players to keep up with what has been happening with thier e-mails without having to search the Egroups database. I have compiled all e-mails from the list here.
I am working on highlighting the player's messages in blue. The DM's messages will be in grey.
Current DM mail will be highlighted in yellow and placed in an outline.

Note that this is a repost of all the avalible e-mails, not written as a story. Details may be a little choppy. Hopefully everything will be understandable. If you have any questions, please e-mail me!
Kinias proped his feet up on his great feast table. Although there was not a feast going on at this time, there was more than enough food for one elf here. He drank a large gulp of elven blue wine from his mug, and took a bite of fruit taken, with the druids permission, from the High Forest.
Although elves were more fond of fruit than meat in general, Kinias had taken a fondness for deer meat. The druids allowed limited hunting, however, in the High Forest. That was fine; there was always the Far Forests, which were not really all that far from Newhopw Keep. the druis had not mentioned those woods, and always one to find a good loophole, Kinias took a large bit of deer along with his fruit.
Being part of the Blade had been a good career move. Very profitable indeed. Now Baron of Newhope Keep, kinias was in charge of active spy training and missions, under the guise of a normal guard training facility. Newhope Keep was that, too, but all the training for fighters was seen by Jarot. The funny thing was, Kinias thought, he could take Jarot down with minimal effort. He laughed to himself.
Still, Jarot was good at his job and everything in the fortress was going well. Neverthless, the Shadowmasters were not to sit still and allow things to happen without their knowledge. There were no active spies at the moment, and no doubt there needed to be. The Zulkir of Necromany, S'Zass Tam, had been killed in combat with the Soaring Blade, and there were probably some major changes taking place in the land of Thay. Changes the king should know of. It might be wise to send a "onlooker" to Thay, just to make sure that Llorkth was properly informed.
But for now, more wine.
DM: Kinias has no current missions; Thay might make a good one. Do you have any particular areas you might want to send spies to check out?
Thay (land of the Red Wizards)
Zhentil Keep (land of the former high preist Fzoul Chembroyl, killed by the Soaring Blade, and it's leader, Lord Chess)
An extra scout to keep an eye on the barbarians that have taken a temporary home in the woods to the south of Llorkth?
A scout into the Great Desert to lookk for possible Phaerimm activity? (The Phaerimm are the unbelevibly powerful monsters that the Blade have never been able to defeat. They are trapped in the desert, but it is known that they are trying to make the desert grow magically to cover Llorkth). A mission to the desert would be very, very dangerous, a suicide mission without magic if you are looking for the Phaerimm, and still possibly one with magic.
------------------------------------------------
Kinias decides to send a less mature "scout" to keep a watchful, yet cautious eye on the barbarian activity to the south. A safe job yet worthy of a first mission for the more adapt student. Careful consideration will determine the trainee who is to recieve this mission. A sort of reward for excellence in training.
Saynal was an accomplished theif, acrobat, as well as having excellent scouting skills. While not an official Shadowmaster, he was getting close to asking for his final trails, Kinias thought. Saynal was a young human, but had managed to surpass most of the other students rather easily in the areas of stealth. Still, he lacked mechanical skills, and traps could be his downfall. That would not go well during his tests. Perhaps he would be a better scout than a Shadowmaster. Kinias would have to think hard if Saynal asked for his final tests soon. No one had ever been turned down for the tests, it was only customary to ask. But Kinias could turn down the proposition if he felt it was neccessary. For now, he would simply need to survive going near the barbarinan's nest.
I also decide to convine with Raganus about any Phaerimm activity that might be occuring within the Great desert.
Raganus sighed. "Baron Aban, what you ask is most difficult! There is so much of the great desert, stretching as far to the east as the area of the entire frontier! To locate a few Phaerimm in that space is nearly impossible, especialy with their magics. They may not be able to affect my magic here, but their spells could stop mine once my magic passed into their lands. The Phaerimm have not been seen since your adventure into the desert."
I also decides to have a meeting with my advisors about any activity lately that is noteworthy. I instruct Jarot that we need to consider another group of trainees that is soon to begin training. ALso Jarot is to send me the trainee who has completed his training and ready to recieve his final mission to recieve his status as SHadowmaster.
DM: Chris, I may not have been perfectly clear in regard to Jarot's duties. he is captain of the military forces at Newhope Keep, and is not in charge of the training of the Shadowmasters in any way. He can, however, keep an eye on his troops for possible canidates, and will do so.
The current trainee closest to asking for his final test is Yartan, a human of some 24 years of age. You expect him to ask for his final test within a month. He has passed all the tests at Newhope Keep and has been training since that time, preparing for the final test.
The candidate will travel to Thay retrieve a scroll of his/her liking and return it to Newhope keep. Unlike any before them Kinias will travel in the shadows behind them, not really to keep an eye out for them that's not my problem, I can't be there all the time; yet I feel something could be up in thay. It's been too long since any rpoblems with them and that can never be good. The candidate to travel to THay will not know of my presence seeing I believe that if my presence is known, then that person may become lax and think they can depend on me all the time and not perform at their highest standards.
You do have the option to demand that a student take his final test, and you feel that Yartan is ready.
During my absence Suron will be in command, I see if Raganus will give me a teleport scroll in case things get a little hairy in Thay.
"Of course, Baron. Here is the scroll you need. I, of course, anticipated such a request."
Finally i'll send 2 shadowmasters to Zhentil Keep to investigate any going on's there.
Done. They will keep you updated on what they find there.
WHile i'm gone in tell Suron to try to find any dwarves looking for some work to come to Newhope. I have an idea.
Suron sends the message to Llorkth.
DM:
Are you looking for dwarves in al the areas around the kingdom, or just from your own kingdom?
Will you demand Yartan to take his final tests?

"Yartan is ready. I think you should keep him from getting to relaxed and demand he take his final test."
Raganus, a powerful mage working for Newhope keep in exchange for supplies
"What are you thinking of doing with these dwarves, Baron?"
Jarot Parmadon, the captain of the guard
"I have a few caidates in mind, Baron Aban. I will let you know soon."
Sethus, a priest of Mask, but one with a neutral good alignment
"Mask favors these missions, my Lord. Let's hope his favor is with us."
-------------------------------------------
Kinias decides to demand that Yartan take his final test. Yet it will not be a simple one, he is to travel to Thay, retrieve a robe from any wizard's chamber he choses and return it to me.
I decide THat Saynal continue in his training, but at an advanced rate than the other students.
I instruct Raganus to find out what he can about the Phaerimm however he might come about it. I want as much information about them as possible.
I wish to search for dwarves from my own area.
Oh, I thought Jarot was a little more involved in the working of Newhope .. no matter I will tell Suron to compile a list of worthy candidates which I will personaly review upon my return.
Speaking of return, I choose the most recent Shadowmaster to achieve such status to travel toZhentil Keep, once again traveling in the Shadows to try to learn whatevcer I can about their long silence.
I also ask that Artaylium send me a dozen Men at Arms fro the further defense of Newhope Keep.I feel it is detrimental to my defense.
------------------------
Before you instruct Yartan to take on the coming mission to Thay, you must decide how much you will offer as payment to the dwarves for their work, which they assume will be crafting and/or mining. The common wage is 1gp per dwarf per week for miners, 50 gp per week for professional crafters (who make weapons, armor, etc). The word will be sent out to the surrounding areas, but there are few dwarves at or near Newhope keep that are part of the kingdom. Most of the other dwarves work for the king 100 miles away in Llorkth. Offering payment to outside work is common practice, however, unless the job needs some type of heavy security.
If you would like to keep this project a secret for now just for the fun of it, feel free to e-mail me outside the list, and I can give you figures on what type of workers you will need and how it will affect your Aspects.
If you are going with each of them, will you travel with a Shadowmaster to Zhentil Keep first, or to Thay with Yartan?
Will Saynal still travel to the woods as part of his training or are you stopping that?
Just for fun, send an e-mail to the list (in character) asking King Stenis for more men. I would like to read how you phrase the request.
