The Code of Honor
The Code was supposedly first spoken by Saint Campbell of Highfather, called the "Son of the Highfather", a paladin who lived before the founding of Arember. Some say that Saint campbell was never actually a living person, but is only a legend. Whatever the case, the code is concidered by most honorable men as the true law of the land and of the battlefield. The kingdom of Arember holds the code as it's highest ideal.
Lies are my enemy. My Word is my Bond and Law. I will never break it.
This code is lived up to in action and in spirit. You can't tell someone you won't kill them when you know your friend will, for example. If you promise something, you keep the spirit of that promise, as well as the word. Otherwise you're a trickster more than a noble warrior.
This code is followed when the warrior gives his word, not just when he says something. The warrior must swear by the Highfather or simply "swear" it.
Violence against the weak is my enemy. I will protect the innocent.
This code means that the character will do whatever is neccessary to protect the innocent, which means children and women, and defenseless men. He will never hurt the innocent unless forced to do so, and only as a last resort (but he would never kill an innocent person).
Hate is my enemy. I will allow the honorable surrender of my opponent.
This part of the code was written before the time of magic and the Dark Queen, and has been in question. It certainly applies to men, but does it apply to the evil forces of the queen? For now, the church says it does apply to her forces as well, for if men give away thier rules a piece at a time so do they give away thier hummanity and become monsters as well. However, Queen Lenan has yet to give her ruling on this code as it applies to the Dark Queen. So far it has been uneccessary, as the Queen's forces do not surrender for fear of their leader.
Any unit that flies a Flag of Honor cannot be attacked so long as they travel alone without hilding their weapons, and are riding holding the flag to ask for a meeting of the opposed army. This part of the code is used so that opposing armies can allow thier leaders to meet and either plan to meet in an area for a battle, or to discuss surrender.
Greed is my enemy. I will never steal for the sake of greed.
Murder is my enemy. I will never kill for the sake of killing.
